Phata
Phata is a picturesque Himalayan village located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, India. Situated at an elevation of 1,900 meters (6,234 feet), it serves as a crucial transit point for pilgrims heading to the Kedarnath Temple, one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites. The village offers breathtaking views of snow-clad peaks, lush green valleys, and the roaring Mandakini River.
Unlike crowded tourist hubs, Phata retains an untouched charm with its traditional Garhwali houses, terraced farms, and serene ambiance. It is also a helicopter base for Kedarnath, making it a significant stop for pilgrims and trekkers.
Mythological Connection
Phata lies on the ancient Kedarnath Yatra route, believed to have been used by the Pandavas during their exile.
The village is associated with legends of Lord Shiva, as Kedarnath is one of his 12 Jyotirlingas.
Historical Importance
Phata has been a resting spot for pilgrims for centuries, offering shelter before the steep trek to Kedarnath.
The 2013 Uttarakhand floods severely impacted the region, but Phata was rebuilt as a key transit hub.
